Memory Verses

Each month, kids are encouraged to memorize a verse. On the last Sunday of the month, kids will have a chance to recite the memory verse at our new MEMORY VERSE STATION!

Kids will stop by the Memory Verse Station before heading to their class. They will recite the verse to our memory verse crew. If they have it memorized, they'll get a prize, AND they'll get to put their name on a raffle ticket to pick a larger prize from the prize closet!

The Feeding of the 5,000 (John 6:1–15)
Brite Idea: Jesus provides.
A large crowd followed Jesus. Jesus asked Philip where they could buy food for the crowd. Andrew mentioned a boy with five loaves and two fish. Jesus had the people sit, blessed the food and distributed it. Everyone ate their fill, and twelve baskets of leftovers were collected. Because of this amazing miracle, the crowd recognized Jesus as the prophet they had been waiting for.
Jesus loved the people so much that He provided food when they were hungry. He knew their need, and He took care of them. Our greatest need was forgiveness for sin so we could be made right with God. Jesus loved us so much that He died on the cross for our sin and then in the greatest miracle of all, He rose again, defeating death and making a way for us to be forgiven.

Q: Can we trust Jesus to provide for us?
A: Yes, He is our provider and we can trust Him.

Q: How many people were in the crowd?
A: 5000 men, but likely a lot more considering the woman and children.

Q: How much food did they have?
A: The disciples had only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.

Q: How did they feed everyone?
A: Jesus prayed over the food and multiplied it. Having 12 baskets of leftover at the end!

Q: How is God our provider?
A: Just like the crowd was provided for, God provides for us with His love and Holy Spirit to always be with us.

Q: Do you think people in Jesus’ time doubted Jesus really fed so many people with such little
food?
A: The Bible says Jesus fed over 5,000 people with only five loaves and two fish. That miracle happened near the Sea of Galilee—a real place that archaeologists have explored. They’ve discovered towns nearby, like Bethsaida and Capernaum, where crowds often gathered to hear Jesus teach. Early Christian mosaics from the Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha (near the traditional site of the miracle) show loaves and fish, proving that people believed this really happened even in the
first centuries after Jesus lived. These discoveries help confirm that the setting and story are real and that Jesus has the power to provide.

Read John 6:11a directly from the Bible: Jesus then took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated.

Q: What does the word “poverty” mean?

Q: Why do you think there are people in the world who live in poverty?

4.png

You may have heard someone say that if God were real, there wouldn’t be poor people in the world. If someone is poor, that doesn’t mean that God doesn’t care about them.

Proverbs 22:2 says: The rich and the poor meet together; the Lord is the Maker of them all.

Our world is broken by sin, which means many people are poor because of how others’ choices have affected them. Some people are poor because of their own choices. Some people are poor because, for reasons we don’t understand, that is what God has designed for their lives. God can use poverty to help bring people closer to Him and also to give His followers a chance to be generous to others. Brainstorm with your family how you could help others who have less.
