December 7th Parent Preview:

Forever King (Micah 5:1–5)
Brite Idea: God promised Savior who would be King forever.
God sent prophets to warn the Israelites about their rebellion but also to tell them about a future Messiah. Micah told the Israelite leaders they were wrong for mistreating the poor and that their enemies would capture them. He also told them God was going to send a King who would rule forever and would be born in the town of Bethlehem. Bethlehem was not a prominent town, but it would be the birthplace of the Messiah. Micah’s prophecy pointed toward Jesus coming to save the people from their sins.
Why would God’s people need a Forever King? Only a King who is God can save us from our sins forever. Every single one of us is separated from God because of our sins. Just like the Israelites, we do things our way instead of His way. He is perfect and holy. He can’t be around sin. We needed someone to rescue us from our sins, not just for a little bit but for forever. Jesus is the King of kings forever! Jesus has always existed and always will. When we believe in Jesus, our sins are forgiven. He can be the King of our lives, and we will live with Him forever.

Q: Can someone really predict the future?

A: The Bible says that hundreds of years before Jesus was born, the prophet Micah said a Ruler would come from Bethlehem who would bring peace and be a shepherd to His people. That’s exactly what happened! Jesus was born in Bethlehem, just like Micah said. This prophecy was
written over 700 years before Jesus came, and it was preserved in copies of Scripture like the Dead Sea Scrolls. This shows us that the Bible’s prophecies are real and trustworthy. Jesus is the promised forever King, just like the Bible said He would be!

Read Micah 5:2 directly from the Bible: But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for Me one who is to be Ruler in Israel.

Q: Do you think people think a lot about what happens after someone dies? Why?

Q: What are some things you have heard people say happen when you die?

You may have heard people say that once you die, that’s it. Nothing happens after that. Or you may have heard someone say that when you die, you might come back as an animal or as another person.

Hebrews 9:27 says: It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.

The Bible tells us that after we die, we will either live forever with God or live forever separated from Him. The Bible says that when we die, we face a judgment. If we have trusted in Jesus, we will go to
heaven. If we have not trusted in Jesus, we will not go to heaven. Eternal life is real, and Jesus made a way for us to live forever with Him.
